Spine

Use an imported Spine 4.2 rig as your puppet instead of the sprite stack.

What you can do

  • Give a puppet a Spine rig instead of its sprite stack.
  • Choose which animations of the rig play for idle, the mouth and blinks.
  • Keep your rigs when you turn the integration off. When you turn it on again, VoicePuppet uses them again.

Before you start

  • A Spine 4.2 JSON export, with its skeleton .json, its .atlas and every atlas page image, in one folder or zip.
  • Nothing else to download. VoicePuppet already contains what it needs to show Spine rigs.

Set it up

  1. In VoicePuppet, open Integrations → Spine and turn it on.

  2. Open Spine Models.

  3. Click Import zip… or Import folder…, and choose your export.

You should see: a message that says the rig was imported.

  4. Under Animations, choose the idle, mouth and blink animations. These choices apply to every puppet that uses the rig.

  5. Open Puppets and click the pencil button on your puppet’s card.

  6. In Edit Puppet, choose the rig under Spine model.

Check that it works

  1. Look at the Spine card. It shows how many rigs you imported.

  2. Open your OBS overlay and play a short message with the puppet that uses the rig.

You should see: the rig in place of the sprite stack. It moves while the puppet speaks.

Updating

Spine support updates with VoicePuppet. To change a rig:

  1. Export it again from Spine.
  2. Import it on Spine Models. VoicePuppet adds it as a new model and keeps the old one.
  3. Choose the new model for each puppet that uses the rig.
  4. When you no longer need the old model, select it and click Remove.

Keep your original export as a backup.

Turn off or uninstall

  • Turn off: turn off the Spine card. Puppets go back to their sprite stacks. Your rigs and settings stay. The built-in mascot does not change.
  • Remove a rig: on Spine Models, select the rig and click Remove. VoicePuppet also removes it from its puppets. Turning off the integration never deletes rigs.

Troubleshooting

The import fails or parts are missing. Make sure that the rig was exported for Spine 4.2, and that the folder or zip contains every atlas page that the rig uses.

The rig does not appear in OBS. Make sure that Spine is turned on and that the puppet uses the rig. Then refresh the OBS browser source.
